WHAT HAPPENED?
The Red Dragons have bounced out of the National League – savoring title glory in record-breaking style – and straight up into League One. Phil Parkinson’s side is now riding high in the third-tier table, with second place occupied at present.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
If they were to step up into the Championship, the Welsh outfit would become the first club in EFL history to enjoy three successive promotions. That achievement is adding further pressure to an already stressful situation, but Wrexham has shown that they can thrive at the business end of a season.
WHAT OLLIE RATHBONE SAID
Ollie Rathbone has told BBC Sport of doing that again and rewriting the history books: “We’re aware of it, but it can’t be daunting; it has to be something that we rise to, something we are excited by and fuelled by. We know it could be very, very special.”
DID YOU KNOW?
He went on to say, with confidence flowing at SToK Racecourse as many of those involved in the 2024-25 campaign know what it takes to get across a promotion line: “Winning breeds winni, ng and when you come into an environment where people are used to it, it makes a huge difference. You can sense it after a game when some of the senior players and coaching staff are simply: ‘Well done, onto the next one. ‘ There’s no over celebrating, there’s no pats on the back, it’s: ‘Well done – but that’s what we came here to do, now let’s go’.”
WHAT NEXT?
Wrexham have seven games left on their schedule, with Wycombe breathing down their neck. The Chairboys still boast a game in hand on Parkinson’s troops, who will be back in action on Tuesday when taking in a trip to struggling Cambridge.
