Tottenham set for transfer windfall as striker stance revealed amid summer exit links
Tottenham will make some money back on one of their former academy products this summer with reports that another could also net them some cash
Tottenham are set to get a cut of Marcus Edwards’ transfer to Burnley from Sporting CP while another of their former players with a sell-on fee has been linked with a move.
Edwards came through the academy at Spurs but would only play one League Cup match for the club, despite former manager Mauricio Pochettino declaring that the youngster had traits that reminded him of Lionel Messi. Tottenham sold Edwards initially to Portuguese side Vitoria in 2019 with a 50% sell-on clause and they decided to transfer that rather than cash in when the attacking midfielder made the move to Sporting two-and-a-half years later.
Then when Spurs signed Pedro Porro on a permanent deal in 2023, part of the negotiations with the Lisbon club included dropping the sell-on clause for Edwards down to 35%.
