Just got back from a loss to the worst club in the WNBA, the Washington Mystics, with Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky. Despite being heavy favorites heading into Friday night’s game, Chicago lost badly (83-81) and is currently on a three-game losing streak. Despite the Sky’s 4-8 record, Reese has been a solid starter. The youngster became just the fourth player in WNBA history to register five consecutive double-doubles.
With an average of 12.2 points and 10 rebounds, she is the only rookie to ever achieve a double-double. Additionally, she leads all first-year players with 1.8 steals. After excelling at the collegiate level with LSU, Reese recently discussed adapting to life in the WNBA. The lack of time for practice due to back-to-back games or travel days was something she mentioned. One thing that Reese has observed is that her self-assurance is gradually growing.
It’s challenging since it’s last-minute, and I don’t have a lot of time to prepare, but I managed to get a lot of training in with what I had. I’ve gone on a movie marathon with my trainer… Attempting to deduce things as I go along is all I can do… Reese told Kareem Copeland on X that he is simply getting more comfortable with each game. Chicago Sky player Angel Reese (5) makes a gesture during the fourth quarter of the game at Barclays Center against the New York Liberty.
“I think my confidence is just continuing to grow through because my coaches and my teammates really believe in me,” Reese added. Athletes’ self-assurance comes from inside, but for a young player like Reese, nothing helps more than the praise of his coaches and teammates. The game should only get slower for Reese, the rookie, because she appears to have a terrific rapport with head coach Teresa Weatherspoon.
Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever will be facing off against Chicago in a major battle on Sunday. Their most recent matchup was a 71-70 road loss. With Sunday’s primetime showdown against what many consider to be Chicago’s opponent, Reese and the Sky will need to play with confidence if they want to win.
