A World Cup skier from Italy and his girlfriend perished after tumbling more than two thousand feet from a mountain.
Hiking on Mount Zerbion, a well-liked Alpine destination for skiers in the Aosta Valley of Italy, were 28-year-old Jean Daniel Pession and 27-year-old Elisa Arlian, a ski instructor and school teacher.
When they did not return home, their family called the authorities, and a rescue team was sent out. Three helicopters helped locate their bodies in the snow.
Though their actual fall distance is estimated to be around 2,300 feet, the accident’s exact cause is unknown.
