Over the course of the 162-game MLB season, every club experiences ups and downs. After their most recent series victory, the St. Louis Cardinals are enjoying one of their finest stretches of 2024, and it’s always nice when the good beats the ugly when everyone pitches in. After a split of Wednesday’s doubleheader with the Atlanta Braves, St. Louis extended its winning streak to ten games and improved its National League record to 26-14 since May 12. After losing the first game 6-2, the Cardinals bounced back with a 4-1 victory in game two.
The Cardinals haven’t exactly had it easy this stretch, but they aren’t letting that derail them. In spite of dealing with inclement weather and a plethora of ailments, St. Louis remains hot and makes the most of its opportunities. Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol reportedly told John Denton, “With all the rain delays, doubleheader, bullpen game and all of it, guys just stayed locked in.” “There isn’t much they’re compromising on. Once the first pitch is thrown, the guys are completely engaged, regardless of whether the game starts on time or not. They are being somewhat tight-lipped. We are playing excellent baseball and making the most of whatever opportunities the competition gives us.
The Cardinals are now 41–38 and in a playoff spot, but with so many talented teams in the National League, that may change in a flash. In the National League wild card rankings, there is a three-game gap between six teams. Milwaukee leads the National League Central by six games, while St. Louis is in second place, one of three wild card spots.
