The Australian coach believes the Black and Whites can achieve a similar feat in the first three years of his tenure. The Broncos were coming off an NRL wooden spoon when they teamed up with Kevin Walters ahead of the 2021 season, but over the course of three years, they have ascended to become real Premiership challengers. They are in the mix once more this season after coming dangerously close to upsetting the powerful Penrith Panthers in the Grand Final last year.

Cartwright, an Australian who played for the Sydney Roosters and North Queensland Cowboys in two Premierships, is now seeking to make a similar recovery with Hull. “It’s hard to go from a wooden spoon to a Grand Final in three years, but it shows it can happen,” Cartwright stated. At the time, the Broncos were undergoing a significant transition. Despite having a young squad, they have a wealth of skill. It took those men a few years to establish themselves in first grade, but Kevin has done an excellent job of moving them on and giving other guys an opportunity.
“In the NRL, players often start to develop into seasoned pros after they have participated in 50 to 100 games. The Broncos took two to three years to accomplish that, and Hull may take the same amount of time. However, as long as we see small victories along the way, we should be alright.”
