After reaching an agreement on a two-way contract, Jeff Dowtin will be returning to the Philadelphia 76ers, according to a source who confirmed this information to The Philadelphia Inquirer. After initially signing a two-way contract with the Sixers in March, the 27-year-old point guard was eventually converted to a normal contract on April 4 of this year.
At the end of the previous season, he appeared in 12 regular-season games with the Sixers and averaged 4.3 points and 2.3 assists per game. His performance in the summer league was impressive, as he averaged 17.3 points and six assists in four games at the NBA Summer League competition held in Las Vegas. He is now leading the league in scoring.
A revamped Sixers club that started free agency with 11 players whose contracts were about to expire and more than $60 million in cap space is going to benefit from Dowtin’s return because it will bring some consistency to the roster. Ballhandlers Tyrese Maxey, an All-Star, and Kyle Lowry, a veteran who has been with the team for 18 years, will both return for the 2024-25 season. Dowtin has previously played for the Toronto Raptors, Orlando Magic, Milwaukee Bucks, and Golden State Warriors prior to joining the Sixers.
The Sixers coach Nick Nurse was his coach during his time with the Raptors. Additionally, rookies Justin Edwards and David Jones are both on two-way contracts, which enables them to split their time between the Sixers and the Delaware Blue Coats of the Professional Basketball League (G League).
