Ryan Lindgren of the New York Rangers was among the most prominent names on the NHLPA’s list of fourteen players who sought wage arbitration. Lindgren, who has played in 333 games during his career, is among the most seasoned players who are eligible for arbitration and are currently seeking a new deal. The Rangers have spent the winter considering a number of lineup issues, including Jacob Trouba’s future with the team. Even if Trouba will most likely remain with the team, where does their starting defender go from here?
Regular communication has taken place between Lindgren and the Rangers, as reported by Arthur Staple of the Athletic. There will be a new agreement in place before his arbitration hearing on August 2, but the only remaining concern is the kind of the contract he will receive. “The arbitration hearing for Lindgren is scheduled for August 2nd,” Staple reports. “Accordingly, that is likely when a one-year contract around Lindgren’s $3.6 million qualifying offer will be finalized.”
Due to their hectic schedule next summer, the Rangers would be best served by a one-year contract. K’Andre Miller, Kaapo Kakko, Alexis Lafreniere, and Matt Rempe are just a few of the important players who will be restricted free agents in the near future. Also set to become a free agent is superstar netminder Igor Shesterkin. The price tag for Lindgren will increase if her run is more than a year, further squeezing an already pricey summer of 2025 on Broadway.
The possibility of a long-term contract for Lindgren is still being considered, but the Rangers may need to pull some strings to make it happen.
