Next year, Jack Roslovic will make a total of three appearances in the Metropolitan Division. The Carolina Hurricanes and the ex-New York Rangers forward inked a one-year, $2.8 million deal. He had previously played for the Columbus Blue Jackets. After being unsigned for a few days after free agency began, Roslovic accepted a significant salary reduction. Signed with the Blue Jackets on June 7, 2022, the 27-year-old was coming off a two-year, $8 million deal with an average yearly value of $4 million.
Despite Roslovic’s erratic play and a decline in productivity with New York and Columbus last season, he could find a home in Carolina’s starting lineup next year. Jack is a dynamic player who has consistently contributed offensively throughout his career, according to Hurricanes general manager Eric Tulsky. A right-handed playmaker who can improve our forward group with his speed and skill would be a great addition to our roster. Last season, the Rangers learned that Roslovic’s real performance has consistently lagged beyond his potential. Over the course of seven NHL seasons, he has played for the Rangers, Blue Jackets, and Winnipeg Jets. His best season was 2021–22, when he scored 22 goals, but he has never scored more than 12 goals in a single season.
Roslovic had eight points (three goals, five assists) in 19 games for the Rangers after being acquired before the 2024 NHL trade deadline. Roslovic was never given a chance to shine while playing on the right wing with Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider on the first unit. Roslovic scored twice on the power play in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Washington Capitals, and he went on to record one point in each of the first five games of the playoffs. After that, he went on to record three more assists in the playoffs, including a pair in the second-round championship game against the Hurricanes.
Roslovic was playing on the fourth line when the Florida Panthers knocked the Rangers out of the Eastern Conference Final in six games. With two goals and six assists in 16 postseason games, he finished with eight points.
