Even though Duke basketball great JJ Redick should have already been inducted into the Blue Devil Hall of Fame last year, the ceremony will take place this fall. Just one day after Redick fulfilled his duties to ESPN in broadcasting the NBA Finals, and now all eyes are on him to determine if he will be chosen the Los Angeles Lakers’ next head coach, the athletic department revealed the nine-person class on Tuesday morning.
The other members of the class include: women’s basketball player Monique Currie, men’s lacrosse coach John Danowski, men’s lacrosse player Matt Danowski, women’s golfer Anna Grzebien Vanderlinde, women’s diving champion Abby Johnston McGrath, baseball and football player Quinton McCracken, football player Chris Port, team fencer Becca Ward. While at Duke, Redick accomplished practically everything imaginable, setting a record for career points with 2,769 (which stands as the program record) and being named National Player of the Year twice (in 2005 and 2006).
Despite Redick’s contributions to the Blue Devils’ three ACC Tournament titles, they were unable to go past the 2004 NCAA Tournament, where they lost in the national semifinals. Since 2007, Cameron Indoor Stadium has proudly displayed his retired No. 4 jersey in the rafters. He started off one of the most remarkable careers in basketball media before becoming a first-round pick in the NBA Draft, playing in the league for fifteen years.
The Los Angeles Lakers are seriously considering hiring J.J. Redick as their head coach. This would be Redick’s first coaching position. Many people think he will be coaching LeBron James and Anthony Davis next season, but there have been no formal rumors about it as of Tuesday morning. Near the start of the 2024–25 NBA season, on Friday, October 25, is when Duke is set to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Later in the summer, we will reveal the dates for the regular season.
