As his team gets ready to travel to Pittsburgh the following week, Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons sustained an injury on Thursday night, according to information released on Friday’s “First Call.” We reflect on a few of the Steelers’ explosive starts during the Mike Tomlin era. Paul Skenes’ final rookie-year start is scheduled to feature an intriguing matchup. We also give a nod of appreciation to a former Pirate who is finishing up a strong 2024 campaign. On Thursday Night Football, the Dallas Cowboys (2-2) defeated the New York Giants (1-3) 20–15. They will now have an extended break before playing the Steelers (3-0) on Sunday night in Week 5. One concern is whether defensive standout Micah Parsons will be wearing a uniform for that match. With a leg injury, the former Penn State linebacker wheeled off the sidelines in New York. According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Parsons “knows’very little’ about the severity of his ankle injury.” Has an MRI on Friday, but plans to return for the Steelers game the following week.
Parsons has been a Pro Bowl player three times and an All-Pro two times. In four games this year, he has 14 total tackles, including one sack. On Sunday in Indianapolis, the Steelers are favored to win by one and a half points. They would be 4-0 for the second time under Mike Tomlin if that were to occur.
In the 2020 season, the Steelers won their fourth game after going 3-0 at the beginning under Tomlin. The New York Jets won that game 38-29 over the Philadelphia Eagles. For the Steelers that day, Chase Claypool scored four touchdowns: three via the air and one on the ground. But the last two times the Steelers started the season 3-0, they lost Game #4. This included the final game of Ben Roethlisberger’s suspension, a 17-14 loss at home against the Baltimore Ravens. It was during Tomlin’s first season as head coach the other time. Following three victories, the Steelers suffered a 21-14 defeat in Arizona. September has seen the 32-year-old perform especially well. Taillon has a slender 1.08 ERA, a.178 batting average against, and 19 strikeouts in 25 innings pitched. The Cubs, who are 81-78, are out of the running for the playoffs. With three games remaining, they are tied for second place in the National League Central with the St. Louis Cardinals. With a record of 76-83, the Reds are two games ahead of the Pirates, who are in last place (74-85).
Milwaukee, 91-68, has won the division. They will play the New York Mets at home in their final regular-season series.
