Former Texas five-star receiver, Johntay Cook II, is in trouble again
Former DeSoto High School and Texas Longhorns football player Johntay Cook II has been arrested twice within a two-week span, facing charges in both Tarrant and Grayson counties in Texas.
First Arrest: Theft and Interference Charges
On February 4, 2025, Cook was arrested in Fort Worth, Texas, on misdemeanor charges of property theft and interference with public duties. According to Fort Worth police, Cook entered a business’s drive-thru, reached inside the window, and took a customer’s car keys. He left the scene but was later located by officers. When approached, Cook allegedly did not comply with police commands, leading to his arrest. The stolen keys were recovered.
Second Arrest: Marijuana Possession
Just ten days later, on February 14, 2025, Cook was arrested in Pottsboro, Texas, for possession of less than two ounces of marijuana. This arrest occurred in Grayson County, approximately 60 miles north of Fort Worth. Details surrounding this incident have not been extensively reported.
Cook, a five-star recruit from DeSoto High School, joined the Texas Longhorns in 2023. During his freshman year, he appeared in 14 games, recording eight receptions for 136 yards. In the 2024 season, he played in four games, adding seven receptions for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Midway through the 2024 season, Cook and the Longhorns mutually agreed to part ways. He briefly committed to the University of Washington but was dismissed from the team shortly after arriving on campus.
Legal Proceedings
As of now, Cook remains incarcerated in the Lon Evans Corrections Center in Fort Worth. No bond has been set for his release. The legal proceedings for both arrests are ongoing, and further details are expected as the cases
