After being traded from the Arizona Coyotes in March 2022, Dallas Stars goaltender Scott Wedgewood signed a two-year, $2 million agreement to remain in Dallas. Wedgewood believes he has earned a raise and is prepared to remain with the team. In just two full seasons, Wedgewood has posted the following stats: 28-16-11,.907 save percentage, and 2.83 goals-against average. He has given the Stars one of the best goaltender duos in franchise history, been a rock in the Dallas net, and shown his mettle when the going got tough.
Because of how well the two goaltenders got along from the start, Wedgewood’s rapport with Oettinger has taken precedence over his statistics. Whenever Oettinger was out with an injury, Wedgewood was there to play the tough games, take over as starter, and be Oettinger’s biggest admirer. Oettinger expressed his desire to have Wedgewood return, saying that the relationship between the two has given Wedgewood confidence.
Following Joe Pavelski’s retirement, Dallas will have to adapt to one of the league’s busiest summers. Concerning the long-term plans of their promising young players, they must consider the many possibilities presented by their lengthy roster of free agents, among whom are key players.
Based on his performance, Wedgewood thinks he deserves a raise and is hoping for a little one here. It would make one player very happy if the Stars can re-sign Wedgewood this summer; he has developed a unique bond with Oettinger and Stars goalie coach Jeff Reese.
