After losing a number of players to free agency, the Carolina Hurricanes are working to strengthen their offensive core. There has been no confirmation of the financial details of the agreement, but according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the team will be signing forward Jack Roslovic.
After the Winnipeg Jets picked him up in the 2015 NHL Draft with the 25th overall selection, the native of Columbus, Ohio, made his NHL debut. Before becoming pro for the 2016–17 season, Roslovic played for Miami University (Ohio) for a single year. As an AHL affiliate of the team, the Manitoba Moose, Roslovic scored thirteen goals and had forty-eight points in sixty-five games as a rookie, solidifying his place in the organization.
Roslovic joined the Jets on a full-time basis midway through the 2017–18 season after another strong AHL start. In 180 games played for the Winnipeg Jets, Roslovic was a middle-six player who scored 26 goals and 67 points. However, in the trade that sent Pierre-Luc Dubois to Winnipeg, the franchise sent his signing rights to the Columbus Blue Jackets, his hometown team.
Roslovic had his most productive season to date after settling into a second-line role with the Columbus Blue Jackets. Roslovic played in 206 regular season games over three and a half seasons with the Blue Jackets, scoring 51 goals and 146 points. Despite his time in Columbus, the team never managed to reach the playoffs, so they parted ways with him last year, trading him to the New York Rangers for a conditional fourth-round pick in 2026.
Roslovic played well for the Rangers, who made it back to the Stanley Cup playoffs after four years, and they went on to lose in the Eastern Conference Finals. Roslovic contributed to New York’s playoff run with two goals and eight points in 16 games played, averaging 13:51 of ice time per game. Roslovic, according to the rumor, will play in the center of the team’s bench because of the significant talent loss that Carolina has had in recent days.
