As their offensive inefficiency persists, the Rangers must discover a means to artificially invent runs. They broke their skid on Sunday in the series finale game against the Giants by using their wheels. The Longhorns defeated the San Francisco Giants 7-2 at Globe Life Field thanks in large part to four stolen bases in the first two innings. Three stolen bases in one inning set a new single-game record for the Rangers, which had not been set since the top of the sixth inning at Cleveland on June 7, 2022.
With one out in the top of the first inning, rookie Wyatt Langford hit a two-out single up the middle with an exit velocity of 102.9 mph, leading to the most exciting of those stolen bases. After that, he and Adolis GarcÃa collaborated for a double steal; GarcÃa swiped home to score the inning’s third run, and Langford advanced to second. The most spectacular demonstration of speed came from Garcia’s third home run of the season and the 40th by a Ranger. However, Langford’s impact on the basepaths has been crucial to his game thus far.
Langford hit his third triple of the season two innings later with a stand-up hit into the gap.
Among healthy Rangers batters, Langford boasts the quickest sprint speed at 29.7 feet per second. At 27 feet per second, the average “competitive” play in the Major Leagues is held, while 30 feet per second is deemed excellent.
