The Philadelphia Flyers selected Jett Luchanko at the Las Vegas NHL Draft, and assistant general managers Brent Flahr and Danny Brière think the Flyers might be happy with the outcome. The Flyers had made early-round mistakes in their bid to crack the top 10. They added to their investments at a position that was in dire need of care, selecting Heikki Ruohonen of Finland in the fourth round and Jack Berglund of Sweden in the second. By choosing Austin Moline of Las Vegas in the seventh round and Spencer Gill of Rimouski in the second, they broadened the blueline.
Following a stocktake, the Flyers might acquire three first-round selections, three more in the second round, and a maximum of twelve selections total in the 2025 draft. It is projected that the 2025 class will be more competitive than prior ones. The Flyers just have to keep going in the same direction to get there.
Since the Flyers’ season concluded, Brieère has made several attempts to lower expectations for the team’s future path, despite an unexpected playoff run that continued until Game 82 when things finally went out of control. He doubted the Flyers as they were then could actually contend for the postseason. The Flyers’ final destination will be greatly impacted by the current three drafts (2023, 2024, and 2025), despite the fact that he believes the team’s construction is still ongoing.
In comparison to the previous draft, this one appears less exciting, and Brière believes that the Flyers’ free agency period will be quiet when it starts on Monday. Still, it is bringing the Flyers one step closer to their desired 2025 status as a major league team. All they have to do is exercise a bit more patience.
