The Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Watch List, which is released every year, includes 52 players, including Ohio State senior linebacker Cody Simon. The winner is an FBS college football player who “has demonstrated a record of leadership by exhibiting exceptional courage, integrity, and sportsmanship both on and off the field.” The award recognizes the kind of outstanding moral character and dedication to teammates, family, and community that one of the most well-known role models in the game, Jason Witten, 2012 NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year, exhibited. Three finalists will be announced for the award on Monday, December 16, following the announcement of the semifinalists in late October. The winner will be declared during a ceremony held at AT&T Stadium in Dallas.
Mike Hollins of Virginia was the winner the previous year.
As the top vote-getter, Simon, a fifth-year senior and Ohio State’s “Block 0” recipient, is one of the Buckeyes’ 2024 captains. In the two games this season, Simon has made seven tackles and one sack.
