Emil Hemming, who was selected in the first round of the 2024 NHL Draft, was given a three-year, entry-level contract by the Dallas Stars, as was reported on Tuesday. In his first season with TPS of the Finnish men’s league, the player who was selected with the 29th overall pick in this year’s draft scored seven goals and four assists for a total of eleven points. Hemming is not necessarily considered to be “physical,” despite the fact that he is listed as 6-foot-1 and weighs 205 pounds. However, his dependable defensive game makes him an appealing option in this year’s selection.
I have the impression that he is a future bottom-six forward who is capable of outmuscle other players while maintaining his discipline and battling it out throughout the entirety of the game. He is capable of becoming inventive offensively. In the final version of his NHL Draft Rankings, Daily Faceoff prospect analyst Steven Ellis included a discussion of Hemming. A more significant role in the National Hockey League is something that I could see Hemming playing if he were to improve his skating, but at the very least, I believe that he works hard enough to earn himself a slot farther down the roster.
Over the course of the 2024-25 season, the Stars will keep a close check on Hemming to determine whether or not his offensive game begins to improve. During the World Junior Championship that took place in 2018, he was a member of Finland’s fourth line, and it is anticipated that he will be a member of the team once more in 2025.
At the conclusion of the 2023-24 season, the Stars ended with a record of 52-21-9 and 113 points, which placed them in first place in both the Central Division and the Western Conference. The Western Conference Final was reached by the franchise, but they were ultimately defeated by the Edmonton Oilers in a series of six games.
In the future Jason Robertson led the squad in scoring with 80 points, which included 29 goals and 51 assists. Joe Pavelski came in second with 67 points, which included 27 goals and 40 assists during the course of the game.
