In a significant boost to their 2025 recruiting class, the University of North Carolina (UNC) men’s basketball team secured a commitment from five-star forward Caleb Wilson, who chose the Tar Heels over other top programs including Kentucky and Ohio State.(Keeping It Heel)
Wilson, a 6-foot-9 power forward from Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School in Atlanta, Georgia, is ranked as the No. 6 overall prospect in the 2025 ESPN100 rankings. Known for his defensive prowess, rebounding, and inside scoring, Wilson brings a versatile skill set to Chapel Hill. During his senior year, he averaged 18.1 points, 11.9 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and four blocks per game, showcasing his ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor.
Wilson announced his commitment on TNT’s “Inside the NBA,” revealing a UNC shirt beneath his jacket, much to the delight of former Tar Heel Kenny Smith. He cited UNC’s rich basketball culture and his belief in head coach Hubert Davis as key factors in his decision. “I believe in Coach Davis, and he believes in me, so I feel all I need to do is prove us right,” Wilson said.
This commitment marks a significant recruiting victory for UNC, as Wilson becomes the highest-ranked prospect in their 2025 class, joining four-star guards Derek Dixon and Isaiah Denis. His addition elevates the Tar Heels’ class ranking and addresses a critical need in their frontcourt, especially following the departure of veteran Armando Bacot.
Wilson’s decision also represents a setback for Kentucky, who had been considered a frontrunner in his recruitment. Despite a strong push from the Wildcats, including official visits and in-person meetings, Wilson ultimately chose UNC, reportedly giving a silent commitment to the Tar Heels staff by the end of December.
With his commitment, Wilson is poised to make an immediate impact at UNC, bringing his defensive versatility and rebounding ability to a team looking to return to national prominence. His goal of helping UNC win big and potentially being a one-and-done player underscores his ambition and the high expectations surrounding his arrival in Chapel Hill.
