Based on the 247Sports Composite rankings, Florida State has the second-best recruiting class for the 2026 cycle. Three commitments are already in the Seminoles’ system: safety Darryl Bell III, four-star wide receiver Efrem White, and four-star wide receiver Darryon Williams. Sure, there are those Seminole fans who aren’t concerned about the 2026 recruiting class. This is mostly because there will be a summer signing period, and the Early Signing Period for this class could still be rather far off if they fail.
As a general rule, fans will say that they won’t care until they really sign anything. That kind of thinking isn’t even safe in today’s collegiate football scene, when athletes start the transfer portal process in the spring before playing a single snap. In general, Mike Norvell, the head football coach, is aware of the consequences of bringing in talent for the class of 2026. This program would not be possible without it. Creating long-term success is something Norvell often brings up when discussing the program’s future.
On Monday night, Norvell may have begun to witness the fruits of his labor in the recruiting trail when Steve Wiltfong and Chad Simmons of On3 made two expert forecasts in favor of Florida State for quarterback Brady Smigiel, a five-star prospect from Newbury, California, who is a member of the Class of 2026.
Smigiel threw for 4,222 yards and 52 touchdowns on 282 of 479 attempts in 2023 while throwing 14 interceptions. The gifted quarterback has become close with Tallahassee’s head football coach Mike Norvell and quarterbacks coach Tony Tokarz during his April visit.
The quarterback was extended a return offer by the Seminoles on January 17, 2023. This means that sparks have been flying between them for a while. Already on board with the Seminoles are Brock Glenn, Trever Jackson, and Luke Kromenhoek, and they’ve added four-star prospect Tramell Jones Jr. for 2025. If they sign Smigiel, the quarterback position might take on a legendary appearance.
