Along with the six players who have previously been released, Orlando Pirates, winners of the Nedbank Cup and the MTN8, have confirmed the departure of Vincent Pule. In preparation for a demanding 2024–25 season, coach Jose Riveiro’s Soweto giants recently parted company with Richard Ofori, Fortune Makaringe, Siyabonga Mpontshane, Thabang Monare, and Souaibou Marou. After Pule’s previous problems with the Sea Robbers, the Spaniard is convinced he might not be that helpful.
The midfielder had a difficult 2023–24 season with injury-related fitness concerns, appearing in just 11 matches across all competitions. “Vincent Pule has decided to leave Orlando Pirates Football Club after six fantastic years,” The Pirates The Mighty Buccaneers saw an immediate improvement in performance after the 32-year-old’s 2018 transfer from Bidvest Wits. Please accept our deepest gratitude, Vincent, from every member of the Orlando Pirates family, for all that he has done to help advance our football club. “Absolutely outstanding on and off the field, this player provided us with unforgettable moments and exemplified the epitome of professionalism.”
With the Sea Robbers, Pule appeared in 140 games and contributed to 35 goals scored by the team.
Was midfielder Vincent Pule’s departure a good choice?
Jackie Ledwaba, the veteran player’s former clubmate, recently told him to get out of Bucs if he wants a shot at regular playing time. Pule has to go! Even though the technical team has the final say, I believe he should move on at this point. He may not play for the Pirates anytime soon, though, based on current projections. He insisted that he should find a new squad where he can get more playing time. When you consider the injuries he’s been through and the fact that he’s getting on in years, it’s clear that he’ll have a tough time establishing himself as a regular starter. He would be better off if he just moved on.
It appears that Thalente Mbatha, who has been instrumental since joining the club on loan from SuperSport United in the January transfer window, will take Pule’s place. Within the following several days, his deal will be finalized. Gilberto, an international for Angola, has reportedly signed with Bucs from Petro de Luanda.
