Hubert Davis and the University of North Carolina basketball team will play host to… Alabama in a rematch from this year’s Sweet 16 in the 2024 ACC/SEC Challenge. The Tar Heels’ NCAA Tournament run came to an end in Los Angeles when Alabama defeated them 89-87. North Carolina’s Armando Bacot era ended prematurely, falling short of the program’s national title expectations, but the Crimson Tide advanced to the Final Four.
The Crimson Tide will be visiting Chapel Hill, so the Tar Heels will have a chance to get even quickly. In the rematch, both teams will have several returning players. North Carolina will be without RJ Davis, Elliot Cadeau, and Seth Trimble, while Nate Oats’ team will be without Mark Sears, Jarin Stevenson, and Grant Nelson.
The series is 8-6 in North Carolina’s favor, however Alabama has won the previous two encounters. The Tar Heels are looking to improve upon last season’s inaugural ACC/SEC Challenge triumph over Tennessee, which they achieved by defeating the Crimson Tide 100–92.
We really shouldn’t be surprised that the UNC basketball team would face this team at this stage; it was inevitable. Fortunately, home court advantage will be there thanks to the game’s location at the Dean Smith Center. No home field advantage has been used in any of the previous four meetings between these two teams.
The North Carolina Tar Heels’ 2024–2025 non-conference schedule is nearly finalized, as the program will once again play a formidable array of opponents in the early going of the season.
