Just as the New York Yankees prepare for the 2024 postseason, Brian Cashman shared his thoughts on the trade of Juan Soto.
On Thursday, the general manager of the team answered inquiries. He was questioned about whether the trade would still be viewed as successful in the absence of a World Series victory and about the Yankees’ biggest offseason acquisition.
Before discussing Soto, Cashman brought up the difficulty of winning a World Series. Regarding the trade for All-Star, Cashman stated, “He was brought in to improve our chances, and he has improved our chances without a doubt.” The outfielder assisted the Yankees in finishing the regular season with the best record in the American League, the general manager continued.
In exchange for Trent Grisham and Soto, the Bronx Bombers sent five players to the San Diego Padres.
Soto set multiple career highs during his first season with the Yankees. In addition to setting personal records with 166 hits, 41 home runs, and 7.9 wins above replacement, he had an MLB-leading 128 runs. The outfielder also contributed 109 RBIs in 157 games. Two players who are on the Padres postseason roster were traded by the Yankees. One of the team’s best starters, Michael King pitched seven scoreless innings in the team’s victory in Game 1 of the National League Wild Card series against the Atlanta Braves. During the season, Kyle Higashioka hit a home run in each of the two games he played in, setting a career-high with 17 home runs. At the conclusion of the current campaign, Soto will be a free agent.
