Simeon Barrow, a defensive lineman who joined the Hurricanes from Michigan State in early May, shot down reports that he was planning to leave the team in a Thursday post on X. In order to play in 2024, Barrow would have needed to petition the NCAA if he had departed Miami. Numerous stories surfaced last week stating that Barrow was contemplating Missouri. The reasons behind Barrow’s alleged departure from the Miami football team earlier this week were covered on the Inside the U podcast. Last week, Barrow supposedly went home to Georgia after leaving practice. It seems like everything that could have happened has been taken care of.
According to the 247Sports Database, Barrow is the 69th DL for the 2024 portal and the 690th transfer overall. In the 2024 season, Miami’s starting defensive tackles will likely be Barrow, C.J. Clark (a transfer from North Carolina State), and Marley Cook (a Middle Tennessee State product). A huge boon to the 2024 DL is Barrow’s decision to remain with Miami. Along with 18.5 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks, Barrow finished his college career with 110 tackles. With the arrival of Barrow, Miami now has a defensive tackle with experience. Barrow started 30 of 34 games while playing for Miami.
The addition of Barrow was one of Miami’s successful spring moves. Not only did Barrow transfer to Miami following spring practice, but so did cornerback Dyoni Hill, edge rusher Tyler Baron, linebacker Jaylin Alderman, running back Damien Martinez, and wide receiver Sam Brown.
Not only does Miami welcome Barrow, Clark, and Cook to DT in 2024, but they also welcome back Anthony Campbell, Joshua Horton, and Ahmad Moten. The 2024 class saw Miami sign four-star defensive tackle Artavius Jones, five-star offensive lineman Justin Scott, and five-star defensive back Armondo Blount, all of whom could be in the mix for snaps this season.
The 2024 DT rotation for the Hurricanes will benefit from Barrow’s decision to remain with the team. With their stellar core of edge rushers, Miami ought to field a top-tier defensive line. Along with Baron, Rueben Bain, and Akheem Mesidor, Miami also signed Elijah Alston, an edge rusher from Marshall.
