The Panthers revealed on Friday that 6-foot-11 forward Jorge Diaz Graham, who will be a junior in the near future, had surgery to fix a core muscle problem. He became an integral part of coach Jeff Capel’s rotation last season, seeing action in 16 games off the bench for Pitt. However, he had to miss the start of the 2023–24 season due to an ankle injury that necessitated surgery on February 8.
He played 10.4 minutes per game on average and finished with 3.5 points and 2.5 rebounds.
“We are confident that Jorge will make a full recovery,” Capel said in a release, adding that the injury was just a minor setback. We anticipate that Jorge will be prepared to resume his on-court growth later this summer after he puts in a lot of time and effort with our training staff to rehabilitate. Jorge has been hurt previously and will tackle the healing process with a positive mindset, so it’s not all bad.
Pitt forward Guillermo Diaz Graham and his twin brother, Diaz Graham, are both originally from the Canary Islands in Spain. Diaz Graham has made 47 appearances with the Panthers, starting in 2022.
