Georgia’s football team has fired Rara Thomas after his arrest on July 26. Kirby Smart, the head coach, told reporters on Thursday that he spoke with Thomas earlier this week to let him know the outcome. “I met with Rara on Tuesday and had a chance to talk to him face to face, which was important, but I informed him that he could no longer be a part of this team, and he understood that,” Smart stated. Last week, Athens-Clarke County police placed Thomas under arrest and jailed him. After posting a $3,500 bond, he was freed on Tuesday after being detained for four days.
In 2021, Thomas enrolled at Mississippi State to start his undergraduate career. After playing with the Bulldogs for two years, he transferred to Georgia in December 2022. The Year-round made 11 appearances for Georgia in the previous campaign. With 23 receptions, he gained 383 yards and one touchdown. With the Bulldogs needing to replace Brock Bowers, Ladd McConkey, and Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in 2024, Thomas was expected to play a bigger role.
