Fabian Lysell, one of Boston’s most promising young players, is targeting a major promotion from the American Hockey League. Management is looking forward to seeing how his work ethic and skills translate to the greater level of competition as he moves up. The coaching staff is keeping their fingers crossed that the 21-year-old prospect makes a huge jump in the preseason and at the team’s developmental camp. In the 2023–2024 season, he finally broke through after a rough start to his AHL career. Since the team’s goal-scorer Jake Debrusk left for free agency, Lysell has a chance to fill the middle-six position in the attacking core. If he does, the team’s goal-scoring situation will be significantly improved.
Fabian Lysell Is Considering Making the Move from the AHL to the Bruins, from Providence
Among the Bruins’ unproven prospects, Fabian Lysell stands head and shoulders above the others. Before joining the Bruins, Lysell spent the 2021–22 season with the Western Hockey League’s Vancouver Giants. After 53 games, Lysell had 62 points (22 goals, 40 assists). Lysell had a breakout season with Vancouver, demonstrating his offensive ability and making multiple contributions.
Lysell had a disappointing rookie season with Providence, appearing in 54 games and registering just 14 goals and 23 assists. But with the chances he set up, he displayed flashes of his speed and offensive potency. He played in 56 games for the Providence Bruins last season, accumulating 50 points (15 goals, 35 assists). Furthermore, he showcased his lightning-fast skating skills. The Bruins have their sights set on this for their lineup.
The north-to-south style of play that Lysell is known for is complemented by his speed and silky edges. The Boston Bruins are excited about him as a prospect because of his skills and energetic play. Lysell is a great addition to Boston’s forward corps since he can set up goals for his teammates and himself. His wrist shot is both swift and powerful. Wrist shots and one-timers accounted for the bulk of his goals last season. Lysell has a better shot of making the Bruins’ squad for the next season because of his innovative ways to pass the puck to his teammates.
Although Lysell has a lot of potential, he still has room to grow in several areas of his game. As he acclimates to the NHL level, Lysell’s lack of consistency, which he displayed in his initial two seasons with Providence, has become increasingly apparent. Despite his small stature (5’11” and 185 pounds), he plays with aggression. Lysell might compete more easily at the highest level if he added strength. Making it possible for him to be even more aggressive in the penalty area.
A Great Chance
Following Jake Debrusk’s departure, the young Swedish prospect now has a slot open on the wing. Lysell is an excellent offensive contributor, thus he would be well-suited to play on the second line. With the guys he’ll be able to play with, it’s even more important. For Boston’s starting six, Lysell may find himself in a supporting role as a right winger. Brad Marchand, the team’s seasoned captain, would play on the left wing, and he might line up with Charlie Coyle or Matthew Poitras in the middle. Marchand and Coyle are veteran linemates who may provide more space for Lysell to make more plays if he were to play with them. The Boston Bruins are in dire need of youthful, quick, and talented wingers. Giving Fabian Lysell a good shot at making the big leagues next year.
